Ive used one before and there was lots of string involved and I probably didn’t do it right. but I had a standard two car garage with exposed rafters and in the end I just went with hooks and hung the bike upside down by wheels because it was low enough...I had to dip my head around the bikes .

Now, I have higher cellings in the present garage and can’t reach the bike that high to put it on hooks . I’m wall mounting them currently , and they swing over on a hinge, but I’ve got bikes for a family of 4 and now not enough wall space. And I like bikes so more than 1 for me . But building a workbench, and family storage racks and organizing.....well...I guess I’m going to see how well they actually work.

What say the Oppo users of these contraptions? How has have you  fared?

The simple pulley has been around since about 1900 BC. I’d imagine it has that kinda staying power for a reason. Compound pulleys since 287 BC. Good enough for Arci medes, good enough for me, I always say.

Was wondering more about weather it never goes up level or drops bikes off hooks, not so much calling Archimedes a b ullshitter.

I’ve been looking at a similar set-up with slings instead of hooks for kayaks. I don’t have nearly enough wall space to put them there and my ceilings are too low to stand them on end.

I hang mine from wheel hooks on one designated wall. I d on’t have pics here but I think I’ve got ten in a row. This is how most bike shops store bikes too, hang on a wall or hang from a ceiling beam.

I use two eye bolts and some rope, no pulleys. Bikes are light, it’s simple enough and cost next to nothing.

The rafters in my garage aren’t really spaced well to utilize the system as it is. I would have had to install a board or something to anchor the things in. Consequently the dual bicycle system I bought has been sitting in the box for 2 years and the bikes are taking up space on the floor.

I used to have those vinyl covered hooks up there and they worked well until I got too old and weak to hoist the bikes up there.  I pinched my hand more than once when the front wheel spun around and got me...and so I bought the aformentioned never-installed pulleys.

In 286 BC, the first  West Marine opened and started selling the pulleys to fishermen at 4x the price because they were for a boat.

I’ve used them for years. Right now I have a bicycle trailer on one and my Thule cargo box supported between two of them.

I use those to store my ladders. Still have to install my second one for my 28 foot ladder

The one that’s installed so far has been holding my 8 foot fibre step ladder and a 16 foot aluminum ladder for the past 3-4 years

Yeah I got the hooks like that, and they swivel to the side really laying flatter, but the handle bars still stick out and I can’t get around the front of my wifes car to get to other side wall stuff , But I do like the hooks! I even had a wall perfect for them! But then the wife says, “W e need a garage fridge for bulk food.” And Now I’m thinking about garage beer and That’s where the fridge goes. on that particular wall, of course. So, I gots a ceilling...

No issues? no uneven raising and lowering? No dropped laddars?

I use one of those to store a kayak. Even at 80 lbs, it works ok.

I’m using this type of system ( slightly modified because opp o ) to lift the car top box, on and off the Jeep. Works well. I wanted to avoid the systems that use a sling around the lifted object, because that would eat into the available clearance. This lifts the box lid to within 3 inches of the ceiling.

The only aspect still yet to be finished is some foam blocks attached to the ceiling, to give the box something to snug up against. As is now, it is only hanging and can swing freely but balances quite well.

Bonus points for anyone that noticed the builder of this house put  popcorn ceiling in a garage....bastards!

Nope no issues at. I even store two rolls of submersible pump hoses on top of them. Was just too busy to install the second set for my big ass ladder

I use one to hang a kayak in my garage. It’s much easier than lifting it but isn’t perfect.

Kinja'd!!!

Wh en lifting the 17' kayak it’s not always even but it works well enough for me.

Can’t speak for bikes but we had one of these laundry racks in our kitchen growing up and it was a rock solid, useful piece of kit.

Kinja'd!!!

I figure you get the pulleys setup right it should be pretty handy.

We all have our priorities. I am thinking of a mini frig just for drinks. Here is the bike wall. Two are not in the photo.

Had them in my old house with very high rafters.  Worked well.  No uneven pulling.  You remind me that I could do this in my new shop.  Put the less frequently used bikes on it.

I've used them. They work ok. Definitely get better rope that the crap that comes with the pulleys though. I got some good nylon rope from a boat supply shop.
